Asking around seems like a bad strategy for getting ideas for your own holiday list; everyone has their own tastes, everyone's family has their own budget range.  What is it you want? What is it you need? Do you have plenty of winter clothes that fit, sufficient reading material, that sort of thing?

Well, i agree but we are saying what we wish, is depending how much money have your parents...

My list:

-Sweaters and sweatshirts

-Chocolate {I ask for this every year, huehue}
-A whole set of Muji pens {I'm a sucker for cute stationery and pens}
-Nail varnish  
-As for CD's and DVD's, I haven't thought about which ones I want though I'm guaranteed to get some anyway.

This is going to be a big list of my Christmas and Birthday stuff combined (I get my birthday stuff on Christmas anyways)

• New, plain black shoes
  
• Money/Material for a cosplay I am making so I can be awesome at the convention I'm going to next year.
  
• Wig for the cosplay, and soon to come cosplays. (probably going to buy it for myself though lol)
  
• I know I am getting an iPhone (probably 5), since my mom feels bad that I don't have one but my 8 year old cousin does  
  
• Clothes that are not ugly. (my mom isn't good with style)

• Anything from my brother and sister in law (they got me a vintage-looking popcorn machine last year, they pick out the coolest stuff)
  
• Re-dye my hair, either back to light blue, or I'm going to try pinkish red.
  
• New skull candy headphones (If you want headphones you need these so bad they are life)

Clothing can be tricky to ask for -- everyone has their own style, and it's hard for someone else to pick something that both suits you and fits you.  But gift cards seem kinda impersonal.  One thing I find useful is to do up a wishlist on Amazon (or the hot topic site, or the website for whatever store you like going to) and then let everyone decide what to get out of the options -- and you can specify the size.  That way you don't know precisely what you're getting, but you know you'll be getting something you like.
