AMBER Alerts for Facebook Empty AMBER Alerts for Facebook

Post by Jəssıca Wed Jan 14, 2015 7:39 pm

Facebook is creating a system where whenever a child goes missing, this alert shows up in your notifications. Basically, an amber alert for Facebook. I believe this is a great idea, however, the thing that grind my gears is that people are complaining about it!

“How can I have this disabled?”
“Not my child, not my problem.”
“You shouldn’t have children if you lose them to some stranger.”

That’s only 3% of the comments I’ve read that are unbelievable. Is this where the world is going? You can’t even take a second to share the alert to whoever you associate with on Facebook? “Not my child, not my problem”? Well, god forbid if your child ends up next on the missing child list! I’m pretty sure you’d share that alert without any complaints. Smh.  Mad

Anyway, tell me what you think about this? Maybe I’m not seeing something here, how can this be a bad thing?

I’m sorry, I just want to have a discussion. I feel like talking. x'D  Laughing

I feel like this is a really good idea to get the word out because so many people are on facebook nowadays. However, if too many alerts get sent out over a certain time period, some people may find it annoying, even though people want to help the children. That's why it can be a bad thing for some people. I'm not saying it's a bad thing at all, as I think this will help get the word out. (: Personally, I don't even have a FB though.

"so many people are on facebook nowadays" - Especially adults, and those are the people who are out and about everyday, so they have a better chance of seeing them. I think this is a good idea, and I do use facebook and I doubt I will be annoyed. And anyways if they are annoyed they can turn off the notifications for the app in general on their phone. I think it is a great idea. Smile

Yes, I agree. Personally, I wouldn't be annoyed, but I know there are people who would be. I still think it's a good idea too! Wink

I don't even use FB, but I still think this is a good idea. I mean if it annoys you, you can always turn off the volume on your computer or phone so you don't hear it.

Sorry, but I just don't understand how it would be annoying if too many were received. I mean, we are talking about children here. They are taken away by sickos, god knows what happens to them during those hours of abduction. The last thing people should be worried about is their health in this.

This shouldn't be an issue.

I honestly think this is a great idea. I mean, how could people get so angry about this? Sure, it might be slightly annoying, but just think about it. What if this was you or your child? Wouldn't you want to find your missing kid as fast as possible? If these alerts on facebook are helping us save lives then I don't see the problem. If people want to complain about it, fine. But they need to sort out their priorities.
