use the magic wand tool to select parts of the background that you don't want c:

or you can use the lasso tool to select parts in your graphic

I don't use gimp, aha.. though if you still need someone to make it transparent.. I guess I can? ;D

I suggest using the 'free-select' tool, also called the lasso. Looks like this: 
Zoom in, (I usually would do 800% just because you can see well) and just go around your character.
Once you have have your character selected, just go to Edit>Copy, and Edit>Paste. Then, Layer>To New Layer. 
Lastly, click your first layer, and delete it. Viola! xD

Thats probably sounds pretty confusing.. if you want more details or have questions just ask.
 I know how to use and do just about anything you can think of with gimp, so I'll be happy to help.

Gabi pretty much summed it up for you LOL, I use Photoshop so I don't know how to use GIMP but if you still need someone to make the photo's transparent I will do it for you :DD
