"There is no end to the adventures that we can have..."

Mike was so nice! I hoped the rest of the aliens were this nice. He told me about how beautiful his planet was, but his use of the word "was" reminded me that they were refugees fleeing a ruined world. The thought made me sad for them, but then he pulled out his instrument, which he called a "viola" and played a song his mother liked. He danced around me and sang, "Be as strong as the seas are stormy, and proud as an eagle's scream!" 


I clapped as he finished the song. It was beautiful! "That's great!" I said. He took a bow. I wondered if the other earth songs were as pretty. "So...what will you do when your ship is fixed? Are you going to leave?" Oh, was I asking too many questions? Mother told me it was rude to keep asking questions, but maybe earthlings didn't mind as much. "I mean, I don't want you to leave, but this probably isn't the best new home for earthlings, since we have the whole water deal and all, but your ship is the most exciting thing to happen in years!" I wanted to learn all about these new people. They were just so nice, and funny, and knew a lot that we didn't. Of course, I had only met one of them...so far.

"A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way..."

My first impression of the human captain when they arrived last night was less than admirable. He had the stature of a leader, yes, but he was young, brash, and selfish. I was unsure of his intentions at this point. I hoped they were to simply repair his ship and leave. I didn't need foreign confrontations to make things more difficult for Riptide.

“The Great Hall was stupendous your honor. I’m assuming that is what I should call you. My people, with this rest, will be able to return to working on the ship as soon as possible. I will make sure all members will be diligent. I do not want to overstay our welcome.” Hmph. His words were respectful but his attitude wasn't genuine. I had been around diplomacy for enough decades to recognize the difference.

I believe this captain underestimated us and our power. Should he choose to tread on shaky ground, he and his people will face the consequences. For now, however, I would give him the benefit of the doubt. 

I nodded. "Of course. You need not worry, our resources are plentiful this harvest and we can assist you for as long as you need to finish repairs. Now, if you'd excuse me, I have matters to attend to." I went to my office and began sorting through the day's reports. 

"...and shows the way."

Chase and Gubble ran out of the house and nearly ran into me. He looked as if he was up to no good.

“Hello you two, are you guys being good today?” I said making sure I was correct in my assumptions.
Gubble then immediately ran into my leg.


“Yeah.  W-we are t-totally not going to s-see the aliens o-or anything.” Chase said. “Oh!  Look at the time.  Gotta run!” They ran off and I gave Gubble the hand signal for 'Take care of him' and turned to check on my shop. I checked my supplies and found that they were low. I wrote out two list one for me and one for a warrior to get some rare herbs and headed off to the Market.

Finally, we arrived at the hall.  It would be so cool to meet the aliens.

“Ok Gubble, if any of the Zata’s are in there, make yourself scarce.  They were the ones that didn’t like you the most and I also don’t think i’m allowed in here cause of my age.  I’ll probably fit right in though.  The descriptions of the humans seem to be pretty similar to ours.  If any one of those Zata people find me, they’ll hurt me.  I mean, Luna wouldn’t.  Then again, everyone thinks i’m crazy, since everyone thinks she is dead and all.  You know Gubble, she’s the one teaching me how to build up my abilities so that we might have a mental link one day.”

I looked down at the ground.  It would be so cool to talk to Gubble.  He was really my only best friend.

“Ok bud!  On three.  One. . two. . .”

Before I said three, Gubble darted inside.

“GUBBLE YOU DIMWIT!  I said on three!”

I ran in there and saw him hiding under a table.  He was more of a social butterfly than me.  Why on Riptide would he be. . doing. . . that.  As I thought that, I turned my head to see Chief Zata talking to someone.  Oh gosh, i’m so gonna have to do ANOTHER week’s worth of community work.  I dashed under one of the tables with Gubble.  The aliens looked at me oddly.  I chuckled.

“No worries guys, this is what most people on Riptide do when they get too water deprived.  Just sit in the shade and you’ll be fine!”

They all shrugged and returned to their meals.  If the aliens ever copied me, Riptideans would totally know that I was the one that taught them that.  We crawled from one table to the next.  I didn’t know what we were looking for though.  Probably an alien that had good talking skills.  I decided to stop under a table and lay there for a while.  Gubble joined me and started to snooze off.  If there was going to be something adventurous, i’d have to wait for it.  I’d be up for anything, except for chief Zata discovering me of course. . .

Laying down under a table was pretty comfy.  I almost fell asleep with Gubble.  Then one of the meanie Zata people pulled us both out by the ear.  Gubble was yipping a ton and I tried to fight her.

“Shouldn’t you be at home, grounded for life or something?”

“Ow, ow, ow, ow, ow, ow, OOOOWWWWW!”

I was half blinded from tears of pain and hearing Gubble yip so painfully and loudly.

“LET ME GO YOU BIG MEANIE!”

I slapped her hand away and took Gubble back.  She was the rudest person on Riptide.  Commander Zata was the one that almost kicked Gubble out of our village in the first place.

“You only care about yourself and no one else.  All you say is that you train and train to protect everyone when you turn around and just look down on everyone!  You’re nothing than a big bully!  I don’t care who’s daughter you are.”

I shouted at her at the top of my lungs.  No one hurts Gubble.  He was my best friend.  Gubble sat unusually still in my arms and stared at the oversized kid.  Finally, Gubble turned to me and panted with his tongue sticking out of the side of his mouth.  I’ll never understand Gubble for the life of me.  I then began to walk away from the oversized dweeb.

((Note** this conversation is made through the mind.  Only those that are strong willed enough to have such a great and deep mental connection can hear this conversation, unless you are spoken directly to.))

“Young Stelar Zata, commander of the Riptidian army, you will NOT lay a hand on this boy.  He is mine to protect.  If you so dare to lay another hand on those that I love, I will not hesitate to track you down.  You protect your family from danger and I do the same to mine.  It would be wise of you to respect a warrior when you see one.  From one warrior to the next, stay away from my pack."

I gritted my teeth at her before becoming happy towards Chase again.  Maybe he'd give me a treat or rub my belly soon! <3

"There is no end to the adventures that we can have..."

Mike looked nervous when I asked him about them leaving. Aw, I hope he's not upset at me. He said they were working on repairs already. "And one thing... What do you mean the water deal?  Just the fact that all of you control water? If so, then I don’t think that’s a huge deal, unless, of course, all of you are trying to 
kill us that is...you're not trying to kill us, are you?

I gasped. "Oh, of course not! It's just, every month the water level rises and without the barrier we'd all be washed away and probably die. You can't control water, so you wouldn't have any protection outside the Village. But don't worry, we can keep it up for all of us just fine!" I remembered learning that humans 
couldn't control any aspect of nature. How did they protect themselves, then?

I heard the bells keeping track of the time. I checked my watch; it was so late! Mother wasn't going to be happy. "I'm really sorry, but I have to go!" I picked up my basket. "It was great to meet you, and I hope you enjoy your stay!" I waved as I turned and ran towards home. My parents weren't going to believe this!

“I have imagined great things and the divine. . .

After sitting there for a while, I finally got up from where I sat.  I should probably start working on fixing the ship.  I made my way towards the Excalibur and began to make myself useful.  It was in pieces.  Years of hard work was gone.  It would take a very long time before the ship would even be barely decent.  I started to collect scraps of metal around the area and return them outside of the ship.  Only a few people were helping out.  The time for moping around is over, and people should be helping.

“I’ll be right back.” I said to one of the people helping.

They nodded in response and I went back to the dining hall.  
“Attention!  To all of those that have their strength, the time for weeping is over.  We need to get our ship fixed so we will not burden these people on Riptide any longer.  Only fifty of our people are working on the ship.  It is our job to help these people instead of them helping us.  Now go and fix the ship.”

After I said that, a numerous amount of people got up and headed for the ship.  Some gave sad glances at me, and others gave angry ones.  They were all shaken up, but I was too.  There wasn’t an excuse to sit around all day.  After that, I went around town to find other humans to help.  The ones that were shopping I would give the hardest time to.  I finally bumped into someone that was human.

“Good morning-ish.  I hope you’re getting along well in this. . . planet.”

I grabbed him by the shirt collar and started walking.

“We need help on the ship and all your doing is lallygagging around.  There is time to play around later.”

I continuously dragged him to the ship.  The one kind of person I hated the most was those that just played around all the time.

. . .but it was nothing more than a dream. ."

(I personally think that maybe we should let Riptide continue for another week and seeing how it goes.  If it goes well, then keep Riptide.  If not, then my personal vote is on Prisoner Island or CHB.)


After commander Zata escorted us out and apologized, I ran off.  Even if she apologized for that, she was still a meanie.  Bubble seemed happy to be leaving too.  Once we reached the edge of the garden, Gubble stopped and looked back around.  He was looking up at Luna.  I only noticed her because Gubble did.

“Come on boy, you seriously don’t wanna study with her do you?  I hate doing that.  It’s so boring.”

He sat there and whined at me with his ears low.

“Your big goo goo eyes don’t work on me!”

Gubble kept at it.  I really wasn’t buying into it, and he knew it.  All of the sudden, he just dashed right back for the castle.  Commander Zata just threw us out of there.  She would kill us for going back in there.  Literally!  I chased back after him as fast as I could.

“I swear, Gubble, when I get my hands on you i’m going to punish you so bad!”

By the time I reached him, he already was pawing at a door.  I assumed it was Luna’s bedroom door or wherever she was.  I was catching my breath and heard a door click open.

I was in such a good mood after meeting Mike that I skipped home, humming the earth song he played. My family's house was in the residential area near the royal estate. It was pretty large, with a stone exterior and nice gardens out front. I walked through the door and into the kitchen to start putting away the groceries. My mother was preparing lunch.

"Wyce, you're late," Mother said. Usually I would be ashamed and apologize, but today I wasn't sorry at all.

"But Mother, you won't believe it! You know those aliens who crashed last night? I met one in the marketplace! He was really nice, and he had a musical instrument, and--"

"You WHAT?" Mother interrupted. "Wyce Chordall, are you telling me you spoke with one of those scum?"

I was confused. I was sure neither of my parents had ever met an earthling. Mike wasn't scum! And I doubted any of the rest of them were, either. "I...he asked me about Riptide, and he showed me an Earth song. Why? What's wrong?"

She put down her spoon and took me by the shoulders. "Wyce, you must promise me you won't speak with any of those...creatures again. We don't know anything about them; I thought you were smarter than that! They could have hurt you!"

"He didn't! He was afraid of the strange planet and asked for my help. How do you know what they're like?"

Mother sighed and let go of me. "I don't mean to imply anything. But until we know more about their ways and technology, and especially their weapons, it's best to stay away. Promise me you won't interact with those aliens again." I said nothing. "Do I need to make that an order?"

I shook my head sadly. "No, mother. I understand." I left the shopping on the table and went to my room. A tear fell down my face. Why was she being so judgmental?

"...if only we seek them with our eyes open."

Gubble toppled into the room as Luna lady opened the door.

“I was just going to get some lunch if you to would like to join me!”  Luna continued downstairs.  My stomach growled.  I didn’t even have breakfast!  Gubble started wagging his tail, while on his back.

“I am not going to rub your belly.  We need to get food.  It’ll be worth it.”

He jumped up and dashed for Luna.  

awjeff“Wait for me!”  Before long, we arrived in the dining area.  The aroma of food met my nose and I almost toppled over from hunger.  Food should be my second cousin or my middle name.  It’s so good and delicious. I sat down at the table and Gubble jumped up on to his own chair.  I served myself up some food and just dug in.  Food got all over my face.  It was soooooo gooooood.  Gubble did the same.  I looked up and saw some of the maids look at us with shock or surprise.  I smiled with food in my mouth and they all left in disgust.  Who cares?  I’m a kid and I’m proud of it.
