fall into the water - a poem

water--

falls into the water
the coldness pierces you like a knife
your hair is swept into a sea of confusion
lungs are begging pleading for sweet air
you see the bottom and strive to reach it
twelve breathless feet down
you can't go up now
you strive for perfection
your face gets a little whiter
and a faint blue tinge adorns your lips
finally you reach the bottom
there is no more air
your eyes shine with terror
as you breathe in the water
lungs filling up like paper cups
you desperately claw the water
hoping to get up faster
twelve feet down
in the dark freezing water
the once courageous act
feels suicidal
your facial features get tinted with a shade of violet
you fall slowly
losing any painful progress you had made
your life slips away
like a dark shadow
you think a last watery conscious thought
and fall
        to
           the
                 bottom
