GERMAN WITH SHAZZA: Lesson 2- Very Basic Verbs and Endings
So, in German, every pronoun is followed by a verb. It's the most common sentence structure rule in German; but that will be explained in another lesson. With each pronoun, the verb ending changes. It further changes with the type of very being used but as we are on lesson 2 and i still struggle to grasp it after an entire 3 years of lessons, that will appear later
BASIC INFINITIVE VERBS-
Haben- To have
IRREGULAR VERB - Sein- To be
As a beginner in German, these are the two verbs you will mainly see. SEIN being irregular, it doesn't follow regular verb ending patterns. [SEE BELOW]
VERB ENDING PATTERNS- REGULAR V IRREGULAR
ICH HABE - MINUS THE N FROM THE INFINITIVE
DU HAST - REMOVE THE B-E-N AND REPLACE IT WITH S-T
ER/SIE/ES HAT - REMOVE THE B-E-N AND REPLACE IT WITH T
WIR HABEN - INFINITIVE USED
IHR HABT - REMOVE E-N AND REPLACE IT WITH T
SIE HABEN - INFINITIVE USED
SIE HABEN - INFINITIVE USED
DEFINING A REGULAR VERB: ALL REGULAR VERBS IN GERMAN END WITH EN;
-HABEN
-TANZEN (TO DANCE)
-ESSEN (TO EAT)
VERB ENDING PATTERNS- IRREGULAR
ICH BIN
DU BIST
ER/SIE/ES IST
WIR SIND
IHR SEID
SIE SIND
SIE SIND
[THE ONLY CONSISTENT RULE IN IRREGULAR VERBS IS THAT THE ENDINGS FOR WIR, SIE AND SIE ARE THE SAME]
